850 point empire vs. khorne battle report
« on: March 24, 2015, 02:18:52 AM »
This game showed me that the greatships truly are the greatest ship possible!!!

I wanted to show my brother man o'war before we played as much warmaster as possible for a Saturday afternoon until sunday morning one weekend.  He got to my house a little late but no biggy and he actually got really into the man o'war game. so much in fact he started to really read the game's rulebooks I have printed out and this simple 6 turn game took about 4 hours  LOL

I want to say the game was fun but honestly, this game was a bit smash and bog!  I have the empire pretty well thought out with the ironfists in the back and a simple line of wolfships and war galleys but the khorne fleet just feels so one sided....full steam ahead and hit 'em.  So, again, it was 2 groups of ships for khorne and for no reason what so ever my brother left the greatship way out on the flank.  His gryphons took out 1 cultist crew on 2 different iron sharks before our battle lines smashed against each other.

My bloodship and the 3 ironsharks collided as planned with the greatship, I literally destroyed everything on the ship, boarded it twice and lost each time.  With the dream of sinking that flagship and taking his admiral prisoner to end the game I put little effort into the rest of the fleets movements and tactics and just kept the empire fleet away.  BUT, I did not sink that big ship and only managed to kill one crew member during the few boarding parties I sent forth.  I didn't send more because 5 crew plus the admiral were way more than my 2 crew.

the empire line held very well, the ironfists did their job, I had to abandon a death galley and moved the crew onto another ship to keep going forward on the right flank in front of the plague ship.  The plague ship catapults actually put down a wolfship to match the ironfists.

In the end, over dinner at a nice little thai restaurant we had to both agree it's a bit hard to sink a ship and the greatship should have gone down.

So my question from this fight is, does a destroyed area of a ship make a normal save roll?  I am reading the rules and that is what it says but maybe it just takes a combination of attacks to bring down the greatship, the burning attacks of the bloodship just cant punch a hole in it.

anyways!!  here are the pics.
the first one has my 2.5 year old in the back and he simply loves these minatures.  Warms your heart when he lights up like he does but keep him very clear away from them!!!  LOL

final resting of the fleets.  Not missing anything as movements were simply straight forward.  The bloodship and the ironsharks moved around an island which gave them their "flanking" position on the greatship.  Ironsharks can take a punch like a champ and still get into contact I must say.
